TOPIC: Encrypting breaks existing links in downloaded PDF

Encrypting breaks existing links in downloaded PDF 7 years 3 weeks ago #3425

My original PDF has a table of contents. The menu links work fine in the original PDF but when it is downloaded with encryption (password protection) enabled the menu links no longer work. If I turn off encryption the menu links are fine. When the PDF is altered at the server it breaks the links. The added email address is a link but all the others are gone.

Hello Ron,

Currently there is not a single one pdf framework that I am aware of that solves the problem, who's license allows it to be redistributed.

There is only one, that is licensed per server and I am working on implementing such solution that will allow me to process the files of my clients solving that problem.

More news about that are coming in the next few months.

Thanks

Thanks for looking into this issue. As a work around I have applied the password protection to the PDF file prior to uploading to the server. I then pass the password to the customer in the thank you page and in the email. This method is not much of a departure of having the server setting the password to the buyer's email address when the download is triggered. I think ultimately what would suit me best, and others also, would be for the buyer to enter a password and then have it applied to the PDF file by the server. Letting the buyer assign their own password IMO would be the best protection against duplicates of the file being passed along.

The only solution so far is to make a hosted version of the plugin, that's what the encryption part vendor can offer. I have a few other ideas though I will look trough.
